Sixth grader recites 93 digits of Pi

Ari Bennett '24 recited from memory 93 digits of the mathematical constant pi during the Middle School Pi Day Celebration on March 14. Bennett topped Teimour Asghar '24, who earned second place in the pi recitation competition by accurately reciting 69 digits. Meanwhile, to celebrate Pi Day at the Upper School, Head of the Upper School Ken Mills good-naturedly took a pie in the face, helping the math team raise more than $700 for Breakthrough Miami.
Alex Prio-Touzet '21 drew the winning raffle ticket that allowed her to throw the pie. The math team also sold a variety of pie slices during lunch to contribute to the Breakthrough donation.

The Middle School pi day event included various math games and students' projects. Alexander Tong '24 and Varun Jay Raju '24 also participated in the recitation contest, finishing third and fourth. All of the partipants did a great job, but they have a ways to go before they top the pi-recitation world record set in 2005 by a man from China who made it to 67,890 digits!
