MS band finishes year with rousing concert

More than five dozen Middle School band students showed their musical development during an entertaining Middle School Band Spring Concert May 17 that included an impromptu guest appearance by nine members of RE's incoming Class of 2025. Band director Cathi Leibinger summoned the rising sixth graders from the crowd and handed them tins of hard candy to use as shakers to accompany the advanced symphonic band in "Jamaica Farewell."  Photo Gallery
That followed one of the most engaging performances of the evening, "Around the World in 80 Measures," in which the symphonic band stitched together a variety of familiar songs from around the world.

Leibinger also recognized the eighth-grade students who will soon depart to the Upper School. She handed each a small gift, and several said words of thanks to her on behalf of the group. The band's Class of 2022 – Nika Kazumyan '22, Boris Bialer '22, Gaurav Gajavelli '22, Wirth Munroe '22, Andrew O'Brien '22, Joshua Buttrick '22, Cameron Franklin '22, Jarret Howland '22, Mario Cruz '22, Zach Marcus '22, Gideon Shaken '22, David Dubovy '22, Grant Pfeiffer '22 and Jasper Broad '22 – then shared the stage to perform Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea."

The program began with four pieces from the 37-person beginning band, five from the 15-student concert band and four from the 23-student symphonic band. The night's finale featured more than 70 students playing "Guantanamera."
