Parents learn about financial aid options

Joanne Brown, Director of Financial Aid at the University of Miami, offered families a tutorial on the various forms of financial aid available to students – from scholarships to grants to loans to agency assistance – and explained how to access each type of aid. Her informative Oct. 11 talk on the campus of the Carollton School for the Sacred Heart represented a joint offering between RE's college counseling office and Carrollton's. 
Brown's detailed foray into the world of financial aid touched on the two primary financial aid applications used by colleges: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the tool that determines qualification for federal aid, and the CSS Profile, a more detailed application administered by the College Board and used by some 300 colleges. She shared information on federal, state, agency and private aid, and deadlines to tap those sources.
