RE athletics leads fundraising, clothing drives

RE's athletics and physical education department raised money for California wildfire victims and collected clothing donations for local elementary school children through a pair of holiday drives that got athletes and non-athletes involved. Preston Edmunds '20 and Jake Schwartz '19 spearheaded the sale of vintage RE jerseys and jackets on the Quad to raise nearly $900 for the California Fire Foundation, and winter athletic teams – girls' and boys' basketball and girls' and boys' soccer – donated dozens of sweaters and jackets to The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove's Heartwarming Holidays campaign.
With the donations from RE and other organizations throughout the grove, more than 450 new or gently worn sweaters, jackets, hoodies and raincoats were given to Coconut Grove elementary school students by the rotary club. Surplus donations went to children in the Florida Panhandle who lost their winter outerwear due to Hurricane Michael.
