Robotics teams excel at RoboSLAM III

Ransom Everglades students excelled at the RoboSLAM III Miami robotics event at Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition Arnold Hall Jan. 12. Adam Kaplan '21 went undefeated and won the 3 lb. division in the BattleBots tournament, and RE’s powerhouse freshman team led by Max Vallone ’22 and Dashiell DeStefano ’22 claimed the Create Award and second place overall in the VEX Robotics Competition. More than 40 teams participated.
The freshman team robot, designed by Vallone, DeStefano, Ceci Granda-Scott '22, Isa Camacho '22 and Andre Joseph '22, was recognized with the special award for creative engineering solution and also qualified for the state championship for VEX robotics. Kaplan's robot Angry Calf defeated a field of 10 robots.

The teams were led by RE faculty members Bob DuBard and Gus Palacios. About 30 members of RE’s Science National Honor Society volunteered before and during the event, participating in set-up and tournament execution.
