Class of '17 bonds during annual senior retreat

They built sand castles, played dodgeball and kickball, launched water balloons and conducted scavenger hunts. Sounds a lot like summer camp at your local pre-school – only this was Ransom Everglades' Class of 2017, having a ridiculously good time and getting to know one another better during the annual senior excursion to the Circle F Dude Ranch in Lake Wales, Fla.
After spending the morning of Aug. 18 huddling with the college counseling staff, discussing essay writing and laying the foundation to manage the college-application process, seniors attended the traditional "Battle of the Oar" game at Palmer Trinity (the Raiders won, 45-0), then boarded buses for their long-awaited trip.

For three days and two nights before the start of classes Aug. 22, seniors had time to enjoy each other and un-wind. With rustic but air-conditioned cabins as their home base, they engaged in various activities on and around Lake Wales by day, then gathered in the evenings for trivia, talking and s'mores around a campfire.

"Circle F offers students the opportunity to forge new friendships, enjoy team-building exercises, find common ground and establish a positive outlook for the whole year," said teacher Jorge Guzman, who chaperoned the trip along with Associate Head of School John A. King, Jr., Dean of Students Joshua Stone, teacher Jenny Carson and new faculty members Paul Elkins and Bailey Farrell.

"We want them to reach their full potential this senior year," Guzman added. "It's a lot of fun stuff."
