Message from Executive Director of College Counseling: A winter of activity, a spring of gratitude

A year ago this week, I visited Ransom Everglades School as the newly appointed Executive Director of College Counseling. Although my official start date was a month away, I was invited to South Florida to spend time with my new colleagues before the summer break. The observations and impressions I gathered during this first visit formed the basis for the strategy statement that I unveiled to the RE Board of Trustees in September:

REimagine the college counseling process to engage and inform families as we elevate RE students in an increasingly competitive national admissions environment.

The strategic plan, dubbed the REimagining of College Counseling, began to take shape when then-Interim Head of School Rachel Rodriguez announced the hiring of eight new members of the College Counseling Office. Over the past four months, we have launched the Class of 2024 college counseling process with new programming and a more personalized experience. And just as the strategic plan began to fall into place, admissions results for the Class of 2023 rolled in – there were many moments to celebrate!

While our sights are now set on the full implementation of the strategic plan across the Classes of 2024-27, I want to take a moment to thank the parents, faculty, staff and alumni who have taken a moment to call me,  send an email, or stop by my office to share advice and feedback or simply offer support. I have notes from almost every conversation, and many of your ideas and suggestions have made for a much more informed strategic plan. Allow me to share a special note of appreciation to the Class of 2023. The information gathered through the Senior Task Force and through countless individual conversations have had a profound impact on the future of college counseling at Ransom Everglades School. Thank you!

Looking ahead, several members of the RE College Counseling Office will fan out this summer to conduct travel to colleges and universities across the United States. In June and July, we will travel to colleges and universities in California, Texas, North Carolina, New England and the Midwest. Keep an on the college counseling Instagram page for photos of our travels.

Have a great summer!
