Math teams at MS and US excel in recent math competitions

Joshie Khohayting '28 and Daniel Li '28 highlighted excellent results for Ransom Everglades in a pair of recent math competitions, as both earned perfect scores on a national middle school math exam and also finished in the top 2.5 percent on a 10th-grade math exam known as the American Mathematics Competition 10 (AMC 10). RE's middle and upper school math teams also claimed a host of top-five finishes in a pair of regional high school math competitions in late January and early February.
Khohayting and Li were among seven RE students – Andrew Gedde '25, Elliot Gross '24, Robert Li '26, Solon Sun '25 and Minnie Zhou '26 were the others – who earned top scores on the AMC 10 or AMC 12 tests to advance to the American Invitational Mathematics Exams.

Khohayting and Li were also among six middle school students who finished in the top 10 percent (National Honor Roll) of all participants in the Noetic Learning Math Contest, a semi-annual national problem-solving contest. The others were Alex Tevelow '28, Maxie Wu '28, Maya Lee-Schonfeld '30 and Sofiya Dewan '29.

In other news, the middle and upper school teams excelled at the Florida Association of Mu Alpha Theta (FAMAT) regional competitions at American Heritage School (Broward) on Jan. 27 and Doral Academy on Feb. 3.

At the American Heritage event, RE's middle school geometry team (Khohayting, Dewan, Trevor Thomas '29, Daniel Li) finished in second place, and the algebra 1 team (Lee-Schonfeld, Ryder Dalal '30, Alyssa Wang '30, Yifan Shen '30) claimed fifth. Khohayting placed second in the geometry competition, Daniel Li placed third and Thomas earned 15th place. Meanwhile, RE's high school calculus team (Matthew Moskovitz​ '25, Connor Alfonso​ '26, Gedde​, Carlos Horcasitas​ '25) placed fifth. 

At the event at Doral Academy, the middle school geometry team (Dewan, Thomas, Elsha Nagalla '29, Matias Lopez-Ona '28) placed third, and the algebra team (Lee-Schonfeld, Dalal, Weng, Shen) placed fourth. Individually, Schofeld earned fourth place in algebra, Dewan snagged fifth in geometry and Shen claimed 12th place in algebra. RE's high school statistics team (Max Grunwald​ '26, Gabriel Karsenti​ '26, Aarav Jindal​ '26) earned fourth place and the calculus team (Alexander Tong​ '24, Bryan West​ '26, Matthew Moskovitz​ '25, Sirja Joeveer​ '25) earned fifth place. The upper school math team also won fifth place in the Sweepstakes overall competition at Doral. 

The upper school math team is coached by faculty member Brittney Ellzey Mujica and the middle school team by Assistant Head of the Middle School Jess Merrick and faculty member Ed Lally.
