Jazz and guitar students shine at an upper school concert

Ransom Everglades honored nine senior members of RE's jazz combos during a spring Jazz and Guitar Concert at Posner Lecture Hall on March 19. The concert included a first-time twist: table seating offering audience members the feel of a cozy lounge and up-close views of the musicians.

Director of Arts Shawn Costantino and Director of Instrumental Music Jon Hamm emceed the event, which showcased the growth and excellence of RE's guitar classes and three jazz combos. Parents and guests sat around tables, enjoying the music and a video reflection on the graduating seniors:  Isabel Chong ’24, Joaquin Merlo-Garzon ’24, Santi Sauceda ’24, Miguel Arango ’24 , Ari Bennett ’24, Eric Wilson ’24, Martin Piedrahita ’24, Will Malone ’24 and Varun Raju ’24.

The guitar students performed pieces ranging from old classics ("America the Beautiful") to British rock ("Every Breath You Take" by Sting), and the jazz students showed their improvisational skills through a range of pieces. At the conclusion, the nine seniors were invited to the front of the auditorium for photos and congratulations.

"I'm not sure what we are going to do without them next year," Costantino told the audience. "They are all amazing."
