RE junior finishes third in state science and engineering fair

Ethan Thomas '25 finished in the top three for the second straight year at State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida. Thomas's project entitled Syncardia: AI at the Heart of Early Cardiovascular Disease Detection, earned third place at the April 2-4 event after his second-place finish last year. In its 69th year, the science fair drew some 900 students from across the state.
Thomas and Dieter Manstein '25, finalists in the South Florida fair in February, both advanced to the prestigious Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles in May. Manstein's project is Enhanced Antibacterial Effect of Blue Light in Combination with an Amazonian Tree Sap (Croton Lechlen).

Sue Mactye, a STEM teacher at RE, has served as advisor to Thomas since last year and worked with both students as they prepared for this year's fair.
