Athletics
Lessons for life
Athletics has been an integral part of a student’s education at Ransom Everglades throughout the school’s history. Head coaches are teachers and educators, and many are part of the academic faculty. Our goal is to foster a student's passion for sports while instilling leadership skills, teamwork and a lifelong work ethic.
We don’t recruit athletes. We build programs. The middle and upper schools field 76 teams for boys and girls in 17 sports. More than half of our students play on at least one team every year. Some 15 percent of Raider athletes go on to play at the collegiate level.
No matter their next steps in life, student-athletes depart Ransom Everglades with skills and values that help them lead and thrive.

Raiders roll in three set sweep
Freshman Abigail Zichella '29 led the way with 12 kills, three aces, and two blocks as the Raiders earned a three set sweep over Barbara Goleman High School. Junior Sarah Wals '27 added four kills and senior Myla Zuckerman '26 provided strong play from the back line with 11 digs. Freshman Nalah Picchetti '29 was terrific setting up her teammates with a team high 21 assists and three aces. Raider defense shines in 21-0 victory over North Broward Prep
Senior Edwin Carr '26 led the way with a dominant performance that included two sacks, and seven tackles as the Raider defense earned a shutout in a 21-0 victory over North Broward Prep. Fellow senior Charlie Holleman '26 added a pair of sacks to get his season off to a strong start, and the Raider offense found their footing late in the first half when sophomore quarterback Matthew Guevara '28 connected with sophomore Colton Smith '28 in the back of the endzone to get the Raiders on the scoreboard. Sophomore tailback Noah Alce '28 was electric all night carrying the Raider offense with 23 carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Eight athletes earn all-county first team honors
Read MoreEight spring sport athletes – four from water polo and four from lacrosse – earned first-team all-county recognition from the Miami Herald in its annual student-athlete rankings. Water polo players Oliver Friedland '26, Jack Merrick '26, Sydney Gould '25 and Eleanor Kriplen '28 were named along with lacrosse athletes Winston Hosford '27, Rauli Matos '26, Alicia Medina '26 and Caitlyn White '27. RE sailing earns third place in the nation
For the first time in Ransom Everglades history, the RE sailing team finished on the podium at the 2025 Mallory national championship – the Interscholastic Sailing Association Fleet Nationals. After two days of racing, 20 races and challenging conditions, Griggs Diemar '25, Elisa de Becker '28, Tommy Zaydon '28, Sebastian van de Kreeke '25, Sofia Rhone-Fernandez '26, Ava McAliley '26 and Leyla Amjad '26 finished third, securing the bronze medal in a close competition on the Thames River at Connecticut College.Read More -
RE crew teams shine at sweep state championships
Seven Ransom Everglades crew teams earned top results at the 2025 Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Sweep State Championships April 26-27 in Sarasota under coach Tim McAllister. The weekend's highlight was provided by the Boys Varsity 4+ – Vanessa Balson '26 (cox), Mateo Delgado '27, Mario Antonaccio '25, Ethan Sullivan '25 and Colton Seidel '25 – which finished third scholastically and in sixth place overall with a late sprint past two other crews.Read More -
Three student-athletes named to Florida's academic all-state team
Read MoreAnna Lavernia '25, Casey Manno '25 and Ethan Sullivan '25 were named to the 31st Annual Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team, a distinction awarded to 24 of the top senior student-athletes in the state. Each will receive a $1,700 scholarship and contend for the Florida High School Athletic Association Ronald N. Davis Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Lavernia has excelled in soccer, cross country and track and field; Manno has competed in water polo, soccer and swimming; and Sullivan has played four sports – cross country, swimming, water polo and track and field. -
Raider volleyball advances to district final
Junior Tariq Maduro '26 led the way with 12 kills, eight digs, four aces, and two blocks as the #2 seeded Raiders earned a spot in the district title game with a three set sweep over Mater Academy Cutler Bay. Senior Alexander Sargi '25 had a strong all around game with 13 assists, five kills, four aces, and two digs in the victory. Sophomore Shai Waizbrot '27 continued his excellent season with another big game leading the team in digs and aces. Raider volleyball closes out regular season with victory
Senior Alexander Sargi '25 led the way with 20 assists, 14 kills, and three aces as the Raiders rolled to a three set victory over Greater Miami Academy to close out the regular season. It was a special night as the Raiders celebrated Sargi, the lone senior on the team in his final home game. Junior Tariq Maduro '26 and sophomore Shai Waizbrot '27 had strong performances combining for 30 kills, 22 digs, and six aces in the victory. The Raiders will now turn their attention to the post season earning the #2 seed in the district tournament. Six Raiders win individual titles at the track and field district meet
Read MoreSix Raiders – including two eighth graders – won individual track and field district titles at the Florida High School Athletic Association 2A District 15 championships. Gillian Carvalho '29 finished first in the 400 meters in 56.19 seconds, Ella Griffin '29 won the 3,200 in 12 minutes, 13.16 seconds, Harrison Lamnin '25 claimed the discus title with a throw of 34.21 meters, Nelson Manstein '26 finished first in the 800 in 1:58.55, Latrice Nelson '25 claimed the 800 title in 1:58.55) and Lucas Schleifer '26 won the pole vault with a jump of 2.85 meters. -
Raider crew earns strong finish at the FSRA Sculling State Championships
RE Crew raced at the FSRA Sculling State Championships in Sarasota over the weekend of April 12-13. The Boys squad fielded five crews consisting of freshman, junior and varsity doubles as well as 1st and 2nd Varsity Quads while the girls fielded four Crews which inclujded juniors and lightweight doubles as well as 1st and 2nd varsity quads. For their collective efforts, our rowers brought home the highest sculling points total in program history (135) - good for 4th place scholastically in Florida. Junior Sydney Schimel '26 and senior Leah Vela '25 led the girls team with strong performances in their heats to advance directly to the A-Final and place 2nd scholastically and 7th overall in the state. On the boys side sophomores Mateo Delgado ‘27 and Mak Owens ‘27 performed well in the most subscribed event of the weekend which saw them race out of the semi-finals into the A-Finals to place 5th overall out of 29 crews and take home the title of Boys Junior Double ‘25 Scholastic State Champions. Having focused on sweep rowing most of this year, RE Crew looks forward to racing with their coxswains once again and making even bigger waves at the ‘25 FSRA Sweep Championships the weekend of April 26-27 back in Sarasota.Read More -
Raider boys and girls water polo advance to regional finals in thrilling victories
Both water polo programs came up big when they needed it most in one goal semifinal victories in the class 1A regional tournament held at Gulliver Prep. In the girls game, the Raiders found themselves trailing to MAST Academy 10-6 before a furious second half rally led by senior Sydney Gould '25 and freshman Elanor Kriplen '28. The boys game saw Belen Jesuit erase a seven goal deficit before a five meter penalty in overtime allowed junior Jack Merrick '26 to send the Raiders on to the regional final and one game away from the state final four. Both teams will look to earn a regional title this afternoon as they face off against a pair of #1 seeds. Raider baseball advances to district semifinal
Read MoreJunior Tino Peña '26 was dominant on the hill, as the right-handed pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in a 13-0 Raider victory over Riviera Prep in district quarterfinal action. Peña gave up zero hits and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings while walking one. Offensively, the Raiders were led by freshman Teddy Wagner '28 and sophomore Tyler Grossfeld '27 as each drove in three runs and collected two hits in the victory. Junior Juan Velazco '26 and senior Justin Kaplan '25 added two stolen bases as the Raiders rolled to a dominant victory. The Raiders will now turn their attention to the top seeded True North Titans in a district semifinal this afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. -
Girls' water polo wins 18th district title in 19 years
The Ransom Everglades girls' water polo team earned its 18th district title in 19 years with a resounding 20-2 defeat of Coral Gables High at the Ansin Aquatic Center on April 10. Eleanor Kriplen '28 led with five goals; Sydney Gould '25 and Ellie Stokes '26 scored three each; and Casey Manno '25 tallied seven assists and three steals. Ten Raiders scored at least once to help the Raiders get back on the district title track after a narrow defeat to MAST Academy in 2024 ended RE's 17-year streak.Read More -
Raiders advance to SFBC final
Read MoreFreshman Jorge Gross '28 led the way with a pair of hits including a homerun to right field and a double as the Raiders rolled to a 12-2 victory over Somerset Silver Palms in the South Florida Baseball Conference semifinal. Sophomore Tyler Grossfield '27 got the Raiders off to a great start in the first inning driving in a run on a single down the line. Senior Justin Kaplan '25, and juniors Enrique Macias '26 and Juan Velazco '26 each collected two hits in the victory. Junior Jacob Rubinstein '26 earned the win for the Raiders allowing four hits and two runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. Senior Noah Martin '25 threw one inning of zero-run ball for the Raiders in relief. The Raider will get back to the practice field today as they gear up for the conference title game on Friday night against Marathon. That game will be played at Miami Country Day at 7:00 p.m.Ransom Everglades Varsity Raiders collected nine hits in the game. Gross led Ransom Everglades Varsity Raiders with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The left fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Justin Kaplan, Enrique Macias, Velazco, and Gross each collected two hits for Ransom Everglades Varsity Raiders. Ransom Everglades Varsity Raiders had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Rubinstein, Teddy Wagner, and Nicolas Motoki led the team with two free passes each. Grossfeld stole two bases. -
Raider volleyball earns road victory
Junior Tariq Maduro '26 led the way with 13 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks as the Raiders earned a four set road victory over Homestead Senior High School. Senior Alexander Sargi '25 added a season high twenty assists and sophomore Shai Waizbrot '27 had a strong all around game with 14 digs, six kills, and three aces in the victory. The Raiders overcame a sloppy first set before finding their footing in set two to tie things up at one a piece. From there the Raiders played their best two sets of the season to earn the victory. Raiders advance to district semifinal
Junior Bea De Lima '26 scored seven goals and added four assists as the Raiders rolled to a 20-6 victory over Gulliver Prep in district quarterfinal competition. In addition to the victory, it was a special night for De Lima as she reached an historic milestone with her 100th career goal. Juniors Abby Pollak '26 and Dylan Berkowitz '26 combined for 7 goals in the victory. The Raiders also received strong perfomances from junior Alicia Medina '26 and sophomore Chloe Zaldivar '27 to round of the scoring. Four soccer players win all-dade first-team recognition
Four members of Ransom Everglades' district champion girls' soccer team won first-team all-county recognition from the Miami Herald as Stella Colombo '26 and coach Antonio Boada were named girls' soccer player and coach of the year, respectively. Colombo, Johanna James '26, Casey Manno '25 and Olivia Geller '26 received the first-team honors, capping an impressive season for the Raiders, who advanced to the state semifinals.Read More

Raiders pick up road win over Palmetto
Junior Elijah Ponce '26 came up big for the Raiders with a season high six goals, and two assists in a 13-5 road victory over Palmetto High School. The victory earned the Raiders their tenth win of the season and control of the #2 seed in districts. Senior Reid Rosenberg '25 added three goals, and sophomore Winston Hosford '27 scored twice. Junior Wes Barnett '26, and sophomore Hunter White '27 rounded out the scoring for the Raider offense. Sophomore Leo Porcelli '26 continued his strong season in the face off circle winning 21 of 22 opportunities. Junior goalie Jackson Crowley '26 picked up the victory stopping ten shots. The Raiders will head back to the practice field today as they prepare to close out the regular season and celebrate senior night on Saturday April 5th at 4:00 p.m. at Robert E. Raider girls lacrosse earns victory on senior night
Read MoreJuniors Bea De Lima '26, Abby Pollak '26, and freshman Cici Cisneros '28 had four goals a piece as the Raiders rolled to a 17-4 victory over Coral Reef on senior night at Robert E. Walker Field. Sophomore Phia Ranawat '27 and juniors Chloe Zaldivar '26 and Alicia Medina '26 continued their strong play with two goals each and sophomore Ella Crowley '27 added a goal to round out the scoring for the Raiders. Senior Rebecca Paresky '25 provided three assists in her first game back from injury making sure her senior night was one to remember. The Raiders also celebrated senior goalie Sofia Martin '25 and senior midfielder Jordan James '25 thanking them for their contributions to the program. The Raiders will now head into spring break before preparing for the final stretch of the regular season and post season.

Sports Performance at Ransom Everglades
Ransom Everglades offers its students a sports performance training program designed to meet the year-round strength and conditioning needs of student-athletes while enhancing physical education offerings for all students. Our training staff assists students with sport-specific training regimens designed to develop physical competence, improve athletic performance and prevent injury, and they work closely with each of RE's coaches to integrate the performance training into their weekly practice plans and optional off-season workouts. Those principals are incorporated into the middle school physical education program. At the high school, the goal is to achieve physical competence, improve athletic performance and decrease the risk of injury.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida. Ransom Everglades School produces graduates who "believe that they are in the world not so much for what they can get out of it as for what they can put into it." The school provides rigorous college preparation that promotes the student's sense of identity, community, personal integrity and values for a productive and satisfying life, and prepares the student to lead and to contribute to society.
