RE Speech and Debate excels at fall tournaments

Claudia Colina '25 finished in first place in dramatic interpretation at the 2023 Yale Invitational, leading an impressive performance for RE Speech and Debate at the prestigious national event Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in New Haven, Conn. Daniela Garcia '26 and Miranda Silva '26 earned fifth place in Duo Interpretation as Andrew Gedde '25 finished sixth in Informative Speaking. The students competed against hundreds of students from around the nation under RE faculty member and coach Kate Hamm.
A week later, RE speech and debate team members placed in a number of events at a major South Florida tournament, the Nova Titan Invitational in Davie, Fla. Tyler Marcus '26 and Eduardo de Sabrit '26 scored first place in junior varsity public forum debate; Gustavo do Valle '26 finished second and Beatriz Alves de Lima '26, fifth, in humorous interpretation; David Martinez '25 finished third and Alicia Medina '26, fifth, in original oratory. Pierce Harris '26 finished fourth in dramatic interpretation; and Dana Chopp '26 advanced to the finals of congressional debate.

And at the South Florida Catholic Forensic League 1 event in North Miami on Oct. 21, Ana Gonzalez '26 and Charlotte Gould '26 finished first in public forum debate; Gedde finished second, Julia Cuy '25 finished fourth and Blake Langer '26 scored sixth place in informative speaking; and Garcia and Silva earned second place and Jillian Demos-Brown '25 and Kayra Serpenguzel '25 scored fifth in duo interpretation
