Alumni Spotlight - Robin Paul Kelleher ’95
RE: Who was your favorite teacher?
RPK: As a math/science girl, I loved these two teachers differently. Therefore, I can't choose between Ms. Mathis (AP Physics) and Mr. Greenfield (English). Both were incredibly kind. Ms. Mathis made me love a class where boys greatly outnumbered me. She taught me to believe in myself. Mr. Greenfield was silly and inspirational, and he made books and characters come to life.
RE: What were your extracurricular activities at RE?
RPK: Swimming, water polo, soccer; French Club, Math Club and Student Government
RE: What is the best thing you learned about yourself while you were at RE?
RPK: That I have enough strength to share some with others.
RE: What song was on repeat your senior year?
RPK: Blind Melon's “No Rain”
RE: Where did you attend college?
RPK: Williams College
RE: What was your major?
RPK: I double majored in economics and psychology
RE: What was your first job ever?
RPK: I was a bartender in NYC when I began my acting career in NYC.
RE: How did you get into film?
RPK: I began acting during my summers while in college. I would head to NYC, take acting classes, and perform in student films. My first acting job was a two-year role on the television show, Ed. After twenty years of acting (and three kids later!), I wanted more. Fellow alumnus Ilan Arboleda '93 brought my attention to our first project, an award-winning documentary we produced with the Gina Davis Foundation called This Changes Everything, notably about the lack of female representation behind the camera.
RE: Tell us how your film Listen came about.
RPK: Ilan Arboleda '93 brought the script to me. We just had our world premiere at the Miami Jewish Film Festival in January. Listen is a timely spy-thriller based on a true Israeli-Hamas prisoner exchange. The script was unnerving and provocative, and it left me craving knowledge about the complex worlds of Israelis and Palestinians.
RE: What is your favorite part of your job?
RPK: Meeting new people and living and sharing their stories.
RE: What is something you love about your job?
RPK: I love delving deeply into the emotional lives and complexities of others. Most people have good and bad sides; we are imperfect, which makes humans beautiful and compelling to watch.
RE: What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?
RPK: My three boys and two rescue dogs motivate me to get out of bed.
RE: What is one of your favorite quotes?
RPK: "Sometimes it takes only one act of kindness and caring to change a person's life." Jackie Chan
RE: What are you currently reading?
RPK: The Covenant of Water
RE: Is there anything else you'd like to share?
RPK: We are hoping to move back to Miami!
