RE band kicks off 20th anniversary season

RE's band students opened their 20th anniversary season performing compositions from the centuries, ranging from Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" to Andew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" to Cyndi Lauper's "Time after Time." More than three dozen students took part, displaying their talents on brass, percussion, woodwinds, guitars and even the Indian mridangam.
The concert, which took place against a video backdrop that flashed RE band photos from the last two decades, highlighted the RE Guitar Ensemble, RE Combo, RE Percussion Ensemble, RE Clarinet Choir, RE Jazz Vocal Quintet and RE Combined Symphonic Band.

It included the following featured performers: Danielle Pena '18 (vocals); Ganesh Gajavelli '18 (clarinet); Jacob Tie-Shue '18 (bassoon); Maya Rosenfeld '18 (French horn); Ryan Tie-Shue '18 (oboe); Charith Reddy '20 (mridangam); Patrick Visan '17 (flute) and Joon Kim '17 (alto sax), the musical director of the RE Combo.

Longtime RE band founder and director Jon Hamm directed the event; solo coach Rosa Scott accompanied several pieces on piano. Kim, band president, is assisted by band officers Luca Gonzalez-Abreu '18, Rafi Jimenez '17, Gajavelli and Visan.
