Two water polo district titles in one night

Ransom Everglades boys' and girls' water polo teams each raised championship trophies after victories on the same night over the same school in the same pool. The girls' earned their 17th straight district title with a 12-7 defeat of MAST Academy March 29 in the Florida High School Athletic Association District 14 championship at the Ansin Aquatic Center led by a six-goal, four-steal performance by Holly Alesandro '23. Fewer than two hours later, the boys defeated MAST Academy by a 12-4 margin led by four-goal performances by Paolo Rebessi '23 and Carson Stanton-Sharpless '23.
Both teams took advantage of great defense – the girls tallied 17 steals and the boys, 16 – and were led by head coach Eric Lefebvre and assistant Petar Solomun, also the Dean of Students at Ransom Everglades.

The girls, who improved to 16-9 overall, got three goals and three steals from Sydney Gould '25; two goals from Sarah Velazco '23; three assists and one steal from Angela Dula '23; and one goal, one assist and one steal from Kate Demos-Brown '23. Goalkeeper Eleonora Cavallini '23 recorded 13 saves.

In the boys' lightning-delayed victory, goalkeeper Coren O'Brien '23 was credited with 14 saves and eight steals; Victor Perez '23 contributed one goal, three assists and two steals; and Diego de Lope '23 tallied one goal, one assist and three steals. Lincoln Broad '26 and Oliver Friedland '26 each chipped in one goal. The boys improved to 16-8 overall, and both teams advanced to the regional playoffs. Both teams play on April 4: the girls have a rematch against MAST, and the boys take on Gulliver Prep.
