RE visual artists recognized at Beaux Arts and by the Bass Museum
Ransom Everglades' Visual Arts Department is celebrating a series of student successes, as visual artists across both campuses earned significant recognition at two major local events. At the Beaux Arts Student Artist Showcase held at the Lowe Art Museum on March 11, two RE students earned top-tier awards in a competitive field of more than 400 entries. Celine Ghandour ’32 earned second place in Middle School Digital Art, and Daniel Depass-Jurberg ’28 secured second place in High School Photography.
Several other RE students were recognized as finalists, which represented the top 25 percent of all entries and demonstrated technical mastery and a sophisticated conceptual voice:
Middle School Finalists: Benn Umugabo '30 (Painting) and Romina Fuenmayor Manzano ’30 (Painting).
Upper School Finalists: Alejandra De Lorenzi ’27 (Photography), Sophia Biss ’26 (Photography), Sebastian Pita Mendez ’27 (Digital Art), and Depass-Jurberg, who was recognized as a finalist for a second photographic work.
The Bass Museum in Miami Beach also recognized Ransom Everglades artists by accepting four RE students – Noa Garcia ’27, Stella Harris ’27, Sloane Mason ’27 and Alexa Umwiza '27 – into its teen art exhibition. The exhibit officially opened with a reception on March 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Visual Arts Department Chair Matt Stock credited the students' success to the "creative risk-taking" defined by the school's studio culture and the mentorship of faculty members including middle school visual art teachers Connie Hyde and Elsa Munoz.
