Two RE alums win in Aug. 30 Dade primary

Judge Wendell M. Graham '74 maintained his seat on the Miami-Dade County Court in the Aug. 30 primary election in Miami-Dade County, while political newcomer Scott Fuhrman '00 won the Democratic primary for Florida's 27th congressional district. The victory gives Fuhrman the chance to unseat longtime Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in the general election in November.
Graham defeated challenger Antonio Jimenez in the Group 35 race; Fuhrman easily fended off Frank Perez and Adam Sackrin in Florida's 27th congressional district race, claiming nearly 60 percent of the vote.

Graham holds a bachelor's from Columbia and a JD from the University of Miami. He was appointed to the bench in 1994 by the late Gov. Lawton Chiles after having served as an assistant state attorney for the 11th Judicial Circuit in Florida and working in private practice.

Fuhrman graduated with a BS in Political Science from FSU in 2004 and holds an MBA and JD from the University of Miami. He served as a staffer to Bill Nelson on Capitol Hill, as Deputy National Treasurer on John Kerry's presidential campaign, and on President Obama's National Finance Committee. He also serves as president of his family's Florida Bottling Company, a juice bottler and distributor, and is married to Lindsay. They have one daughter.
