Spirit rally ahead of RivalRE games

Ransom Everglades upper school students gathered in the Anderson gymnasium on Sept. 10 for a pep rally in support of a variety of sports contests leading up to the Sept. 13 RivalRE games, including the annual "Battle for the Oar" varsity football game against Palmer Trinity. Head of School Penny Townsend rallied students by noting that she has had only her kayak paddle – no oar – for the last year.
The victor in the annual Ransom Everglades-Palmer Trinity football game keeps an oar for the subsequent 12 months, and Ransom Everglades had won the oar for 14 straight years before last year's 18-6 defeat to Palmer Trinity. RE Athletic Director Corey Goff displayed the empty oar case to the upper school student body.

"My kayak paddle does not fit in this case," Townsend said into a microphone. "We need the oar back."

Team captains from golf, swimming, sailing, crew, girls' volleyball and cross country also shared information on their upcoming games, and select students competed against faculty in a three-point shooting contest. Members of the football team tossed RE T-shirts into the crowd of assembled students. Students from RE's new Spirit Club orchestrated the event.
