Girls' volleyball wins third straight district title

The RE girls' volleyball team won its third consecutive district title – and first wearing masks – with a three-set victory over the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart at the Anderson gymnasium in front of a limited crowd on October 15. The victory highlighted what has been a pandemic-shortened and highly unusual season for the talented and inspired Raiders, who are 5-2 as they enter the regional playoffs.
Seniors Mia Balestra ’21, Cami Lindsey ’21, Kelli Miller ’21 and Dani Oriz ’21 led the way in the 25-9, 25-21, 25-13 Class 3A District 15 championship, which took place in front of crowd consisting of just two spectators per athlete. Balestra had 16 kills; Lindsey tallied seven; Miller scored six digs and 10 service points; and Ortiz had 35 assists and two kills.
The Raiders reached the final with a sweep of Florida Christian in the semifinal; Juliana Williamson ’22 and Carmela Ribadeneira '21 stood out in that match. The girls are led by coach Amie Manke. Other contributors have included Elise Echarte '23, Verena Gonzalez '22, Andrea Ortiz '24, Bea Ribadeneira '23, Juliana Simoes '22, Caro Signoret '22 and Valentina Londono '22.
