Students say Happy Thanksgiving with food drives
Ransom Everglades upper school students – and Head of School Penny Townsend – packed a delivery truck with 442 bags of groceries, 40 turkeys, six hams and more than $500 in donations for Miami Rescue Mission on November 18, a day after middle schoolers filled 42 bins (the traditional Thanksgiving baskets) with hundreds of groceries and some $1,800 in gift cards for families at the Frankie Shannon Rolle Center. The annual Thanksgiving food drives, the centerpieces of the school's celebration of the holiday, allow students to show their gratitude and share with their Miami neighbors.
The annual middle school drive was organized by student government leaders and faculty advisor Ali Fisher; students worked by advisory to assemble lists of items for various families. The annual upper school drive was spearheaded by faculty member Astrid Dalins and members of the Ransom Everglades Art League and PEEL, the upper school art magazine.
