RE hosts 25 schools in robotics qualifier

More than 50 robotics teams from two dozen Florida school assembled at the Anderson gymnasium Oct. 13 for the VEX/VRC FL State Qualifier at Ransom Everglades Upper School, a thrilling event orchestrated by robotics coach Bob DuBard that included four young teams from Ransom Everglades.
RE's entrants, the Masters of Innovation, Tyros, Hurricanes and Transformers, did not win awards, but they gained valuable experience in a competition that required each team's robot to accomplish various, specified tasks. The all-freshmen Tyros (Joshua Buttrick ‘22, Alexander Van Lidth ‘22, Lucas Sahs ‘22, Joseph Moskovitz ‘22) led RE's teams with an 18th place in the overall ranking after posting a 4-2-0 record. Teams faced off in a series of matches throughout the day.

Joshua Bennett '21, Max Swietelsky '21, Jordan Hoffman '21 and Daniella Sanchez '21 competed for the Transformers; Makenzie Love '19, Daniela Zaidenberg '19, Yuhan Liu '21, Charlotte Wang '21, Luisa Guarco '19, Joan Joseph '21, Dominique Smith '22 and Kerryn Xu '22 competed for Masters of Innovation; and Dashiell DeStefano '22, Max Vallone '22, Isa Camacho '22, Andre Joseph '22 and Gideon Shaked '22 participated with the HurricanesCatie Tohulka '21, Magnus Oberg '21 and Rylie Love '21 helped with the event.

Teams from Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High in Southwest Ranches stood out at the event, winning the Excellence Award, Build Award and Tournament Champion award.
