    Members of Ransom Everglades' Environmental Service Council spent a Saturday morning cleaning up the mangroves along our upper school campus waterfront, collecting more than 120 pounds of plastic, trash and other debris.   • RE ninth-graders particpated in a Crandon Park beach clean-up on September 26

    Ninth graders assemble for class clean-up event

    Some 50 ninth graders gathered at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne for a beach clean-up on September 26, removing more than 120 pounds of debris from the shoreline. Organized by science teacher and ninth-grade advisor Jesse Velazquez in partnership with The International SeaKeepers Society and Miami-Dade County, the effort focused on tackling ocean microplastics while giving students a hands-on opportunity to serve the community and connect with their peers. Dean of the Ninth Grade Karen Thompson and PE teacher Maddy Quirke-Shattuck also joined to show their support for an event that left the beach better than the students found it.

    Tenth climate symposium sets inspiring example for a sustainable future

    Ransom Everglades celebrated a decade of climate solutions on April 22 at the 10th annual Ransom Everglades Climate Symposium, once again illustrating the inspiring power of student creativity, research and advocacy for building a sustainable future. This year's event featured a keynote address by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, a record number of interdisciplinary projects from both campuses, an eco-fair and a zero-waste meal. Head of the Middle School Pete Di Pace described the annual festival of learning as "an authentic showcase for putting more in the world than you take from it."

    Marine biologist and artist talks corals with upper school students

    Ransom Everglades welcomed marine biologist, artist and filmmaker Colin Foord as a guest speaker on April 15 for an Earth Day assembly at the Lewis Family Auditorium organized by the Environmental Sustainability Council. A co-founder of Coral Morphologic, Foord has helped develop the world’s first multimedia coral aquaculture studio to bridge the gap between complex research and public awareness.
