2020-21 Head of School’s Award for Distinguished Service to the School

The annual Head of School’s Award honors alumni whose commitment and service to the school serve as an inspiration to all alumni. Susan Matson Lampen ’71 was named the 2021 Head of School’s Award recipient during the 2021 Virtual Alumni Day.

Recipients must demonstrate commitment to the school’s mission by fostering a sense of community, personal integrity and values. They also must display leadership, honor and dedication.

Susan Matson Lampen is part of a deeply connected Ransom Everglades family. She is a proud Everglades alumna who currently serves on the RE Board of Trustees. Lampen, who has 30 years’ experience as a counselor, had brought her passion for student health, wellness and inclusion to all of her endeavors at RE.
For her 50th Everglades Reunion, she and her family decided to name the newly renovated Lampen Family Wellness Center, which provides a peaceful retreat and welcoming space on the La Brisa land for our upper school community.

“We are very grateful to Susan for her vision, concern for our students’ wellbeing and deep support of our school during this very challenging time,” Townsend said in this year’s Virtual Alumni Day presentation.

Lampen is a mother to two RE graduates, Kate Lampen-Sacher ’99, and Caroline Lampen Miller ’06, and her husband, Dick Lampen, is a former board chair and trustee.

“I am truly grateful to the Ransom Everglades community,” she said during alumni day, “to connect and serve on the board of trustees.”

The school also recognized during the 2021 Virtual Alumni Day two 2020 Head of School’s Award recipients: Vanessa Chartouni-de la Serna ’90 and Andrew L. Ansin ’81
