20 Ransom Everglades students named National Merit Semifinalists
Twenty Ransom Everglades were named National Merit Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program competition, a distinction that places them in the top one percent of high school seniors nationwide based on their performances on the PSAT exam. Ryan Alesandro '26, Connor Alfonso '26, Jacob Aronow '26, Matheus Dabus '26, Oliver Duwin '26, Charlotte Gould '26, Wes Griffin '26, Max Grunwald '26, Beatrice Hernandez '26, Aarav Jindal '26, Patrick Keedy Brown '26, Olivia Michelsen '26, Constantino Pena '26, Sofia Rhone-Fernandez '26, Virginia Seabrook '26, Eliana Silberwasser '26, Armin Stamate '26, Gustavo do Valle '26, Erela Yashiv '26 and Minnie Zhou '26 each earned the opportunity to compete for $2,500 National Merit Scholarships and additional awards.
RE has had 20 or more semifinalists twice since 2014, and the last time was in 2017.
An additional 46 students were named National Merit Commended Students, placing them in the top three percent of PSAT takers: Sacha Bidermann '26, Andres Casal '26, Luisa Coscarelli '26, Eduardo De Sabrit '26, Charles Derick '26, Matias Dovarganes '26, Chloe Dubose '26, Santiago Gil Rivero '26, Matthew Hawkes '26, Charles Holleman '26, Lucas Jaffee '26, Chloe Jimenez '26, Gabriel Karsenti '26, Carlos Lavernia '26, Robert Li '26, Tyler Marcus '26, Alicia Medina '26, Marcus Mustad '26, Nathaniel Pegg '26, Alexandra Russoniello '26, Sydney Schimel '26, Lucas Schleifer '26, Oscar Vazquez '26, Ian Villaraos '26, Neale Villaraos '26 and Bryan West '26.

To advance in the competition, RE's semifinalists must fulfill several requirements, including submitting a detailed application with their high school academic record, an essay, and SAT or ACT scores that confirm their strong PSAT performance. Winners of the scholarships will be announced next spring.
The National Merit Scholarship Program, a not-for-profit organization, has been honoring academically talented high school students since 1955. The program operates without government assistance, with scholarships financed by NMSC funds and approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
