RE has had 20 or more semifinalists twice since 2014, and the last time was in 2017.

To advance in the competition, RE's semifinalists must fulfill several requirements, including submitting a detailed application with their high school academic record, an essay, and SAT or ACT scores that confirm their strong PSAT performance. Winners of the scholarships will be announced next spring.
The National Merit Scholarship Program, a not-for-profit organization, has been honoring academically talented high school students since 1955. The program operates without government assistance, with scholarships financed by NMSC funds and approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions.
