Girls' Varsity Water Polo Knocks Off Hialeah, Advances to States

The Girls' Varsity Water Polo Team welcomed the previously unbeaten and defending state champions, Hialeah High School to the Ansin Aquatic Center for the Regional Final on Friday evening. In front of a packed house the Raiders edged the Thoroughbreds, 9-8 in a thrilling, down-to-the-wire affair. Goaltender Claudia Pinilla was a force between the pipes. Pinilla had a game-high 16 saves including two key blocks at point blank range with less than a minute to go to keep the T-Breds from tying the game. Senior Grace Waibel had the game-winner with 3:04 left in the game. With the win the team advances to the State Tournament which will be held at Boca Raton High School on May 10-11.
