MS students travel to Puerto Rico

More than 50 Middle School students traveled to Puerto Rico Feb. 15-18 for a cultural immersion trip that allowed them to hone their speaking skills while experiencing the beauty and diversity of the island’s landscape; exploring the history preserved in Old San Juan and Ponce; and eating – and even cooking! – authentic local cuisine.
Led by world languages teacher Bobbie Bassuk, the students took salsa lessons and a mofongo cooking class. They helped paint and clean a local school in Ponce. They went hiking in the El Yunque rainforest and traversed the streets of San Juan. They experienced the bioluminescence of the bay during a nighttime boat tour, enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear water, and enjoyed outstanding cuisine throughout the trip. Faculty members Lilliam Fernandez, Alfredo Palacio, Fabiola Weinberg and JP Arrastia served as chaperones.
