Senior class joins Raider Day of Giving

Seniors kicked off the Raider Day of Giving as soon-to-be-alumni by making four-year pledges after meeting with Alumni Board President Agustin “Konky” Arellano ’90 on the eve of the annual fundraising day. Arellano shared his passion for RE and promised that the alumni board would donate $20.19 on behalf of every senior who contributed. Andres Badia ’19 made the first pledge on the spot, urged on by his classmatesGive NOW!
“This is an incredibly special place,” Arellano said at the March 4 meeting at the Pagoda. “I’m sure it means a lot to you now; it’s going to mean more and more to you as the years go on. Giving is a great habit to pick up.”

Other seniors also submitted pledge forms to help launch the fourth annual Raider Day of Giving, which brings the RE alumni community together to show its collective support for Ransom Everglades. The goal for 2019 is to inspire at least 305 alumni donors to help reach the annual goal of 30 percent alumni participation.

Alumni are encouraged to give, tell their friends, and like and share posts from the Alumni Facebook page throughout the day of giving, which runs from 12 a.m. to midnight March 5. RE Chair of the Board Andy Ansin '81 attended the senior meeting and urged future and fellow alumni to support their school.

Student Government Association President Henry Schermerhorn ’19 and Senior Class President Sarah Rahman '19 each agreed to make a pledge. “if I can provide the opportunity to give [access to RE] to another kid," Schermerhorn said, "I’d be glad to do that.”

He and Rahman revealed a new senior tradition: the inaugural Senior Gift, something the class leaves behind that will make a difference for future generations. This year's senior gift will be a wellness garden next to the Wellness Center on the La Brisa property. This special garden, they explained, would be a quiet, reflective, gathering space for RE students for years to come.
