RE sailing earns third at nationals

Ransom Everglades' young sailing team flashed its future potential with a bronze-medal finish in the 2019 Interscholastic Sailing Association Team Racing Championship, the national championship regatta also known as the Baker Trophy. RE's team of seven sophomores, one freshman and one junior finished the event on May 25-26 in Portland, Maine, in a three-way tie for second; the mathematical tiebreaker pushed the Raiders behind Christchurch School in Christchurch, Va., and 2018 champion Point Loma High in San Diego.
RE topped the 2017 champion Antilles School, which claimed fourth place, in the competition among 12 regional champions. The Raiders were led by coach Joe Logan and skippers Lachlain McGranahan '20, Javier Garcon '21, Stephan Baker '22 and Liam O'Keefe '21. Crew members Hannah Bast '21, Lucas Vianna '21, Adam Kaplan '21, Louis La Fontisse '21 and Claire Holzman '21 contributed to the victory, as did assistant coaches Tim Banks and Omari Scott.

Ransom Everglades also finished the 2018-19 year atop the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association standings having won four out of seven district regattas and the College of Charleston Invitational.
