Ransom Everglades called upon a loyal and accomplished alumnus to enhance its board of trustees in 2019-20. Agustin “Konky” Arellano ’90, who served for eight years on the RE Alumni Board,began his tenure as a board members on July 1.
Arellano stepped into duty as Gary Tie-Shue and Mariela Cisneros-Mestre departed the board after six and five years, respectively. Both helped to lead Ransom Everglades into the REinventing Excellence campaign that is transforming the upper school campus.
Head of School Penny Townsend offered gratitude for the work of the departing board members while looking ahead to the promise brought by the newest addition to RE’s 30-person governing board, which is led by chair Andrew L. Ansin ’81 and vice-chair Jeffrey Hicks ’84.
“Konky brings a range of skills and experience and, most importantly, a huge heart to our board of trustees,” Townsend said. “You could not ask for a more devoted alumnus than Konky, who has shared his time and talents with RE since he graduated.
“We will greatly miss Gary and Mariela, who devoted countless hours to RE and provided a marvelous example for future trustees.”
Arellano, who also served as alumni board president, is co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of NV2A Group, a commercial building construction and civil infrastructure company. He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of OHL-Arellano Construction Co., a full-service construction management and general contracting company based in Miami and with offices in Orlando and Aruba.
He also has been active on non-profit boards, serving as director of the K J Arellano Foundation; honorary board member of the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind (and former chair); a member of the Orange Bowl Committee; former chair of FIU’s Department of Construction Management Industry Advisory Council; and former board member of the Riviera Country Club.
Arellano earned his bachelor's degree at Duke University and MBA at the University of Chicago. His father, Agustin Arellano Sr., served as a trustee from 1988-97. His sisters, Lola Pegg ’93 and Olivia Arellano Espinosa ’00 also attended RE. He and spouse Loli Boehler have three children, Luc, Bella and Benji.
