Raider football concludes strong season

The Ransom Everglades football team, led by quarterback Thomas Schein ’21 and wide receiver Robert Moret ’20, finished near the top of the Florida Independent Football Conference with a 7-3 record despite key injuries late in the season. The defense, anchored by defensive lineman Stephen Garrett '20, linebacker Thomas Heisel '21, linebacker Walker White '21, defensive lineman Nick Namias '20, linebacker Jack Prio Touzet '20, defensive lineman Joseph Kodsi '20 and defensive back Nick Lampert '21, allowed fewer than 150 yards of total offense per game.
The team raced to a 6-0 record, highlighted by a 30-0 victory in the historic “Battle for the Oar” game against Palmer Trinity that restored the coveted oar to RE after a one-year absence. Schein completed 55 percent of his passes for 1,165 yards and 12 touchdowns. Moret, who was voted by coaches to the All-District team, caught 53 passes for 675 yards and eight touchdowns, and he added two rushing touchdowns.

Led by Coach Roger Caron, who was named the Florida Independent Football Conference Coach of the Year, the Raiders received a host of post-season conference honors. Moret, Namias, Garrett and Schein won first-team all-conference honors. Heisel, Lampert and White claimed second-team recognition, and Kodsi and Prio Touzet were named to the third team. Garrett also earned academic recognition, and Caleb Carlson ’22 was lauded for his play on special teams.
