Peer-to-peer health education at RE

Wearing distinctive teal T-shirts and armed with weeks of training, nearly 50 Ransom Everglades juniors and seniors taught health education to freshmen this week through the Health Information Project (HIP), in its fourth year at Ransom Everglades.
The juniors and seniors – known as Peer Health Educators – meet monthly during advisory with groups of ninth graders, guiding them through health and wellness modules that address issues ranging anxiety to alcohol abuse. The peer-to-peer teaching is designed to promote active engagement, open conversations and inclusion. The most recent session took place Nov. 7.
The HIP program represents a piece of Ransom Everglades' larger health and wellness curriculum, which benefits from active partnerships with Freedom from Chemical Dependency, the Caring Schools Network, High Resolves and various local agencies.

Faculty member Alberto Adatto oversees the HIP program along with RE’s HIP president Mia Landman ’20 and board members: Jack Fitzpatrick ’20, Hallie Leeds ’20, Alec Leyva ’20, Ernie Poma ’20, Annabel Franklin ’20, Lucas Allraum ’20
Twenty-six juniors and 23 seniors serve as Peer Health Educators.
