RE Competes at 2020 Sarasota Invitational Regatta

RE Crew at 2020 Sarasota Invitational Regatta
2020 Sarasota Invitational Regatta
Saturday February 22nd, Nathan Benderson Park, Sarasota, FL

The Sarasota Invitational Regatta (SIR) is one of the first large regattas to be held each spring in the United States and draws a large field of local, regional and national crews to test themselves early in the season. From this regatta, all teams, including RE Crew, are able to gauge the effectiveness of their winter training and to begin to solidify lineups for racing later into the spring. With the FSRA Sculling State Championships only 5 weeks away, the racing for Florida crews gets going early and the focus is on creating speed right out of the gate.

RE Crew fielded 13 entries in 8 events and gained valuable experience racing for the squad which is composed mostly of freshman an novices. Despite the team’s youth and relative inexperience against the competition, the upperclassmen proved instrumental in providing guidance to the freshman as the team raced other crews often far older and more experienced in every event save the freshman and novice 4+ events. From this RE Crew saw some very nice results and gained across the board experience it can take forward to build the program’s speed.

RE Crew next sees competition on Saturday March 7th in Tampa, FL at the Spring Sprints #2 Regatta on the Tampa Bypass Canal.
