Henry "Harry" H. Anderson, Jr. '38

Dear Members of the Ransom Everglades Community,

I am sad to inform you that Harry Anderson ’38, Ransom Everglades’ longest surviving alumnus and dear friend, passed away peacefully this morning in Mystic, Connecticut. He was 98. Harry and his family have been associated with Ransom Everglades since its founding. Harry's father, Harry Sr., was a member of the Class of 1911, and Harry's first experience with RE was as a camper at age 10.
At 12, he and his parents canoed to the Adirondacks campus for his interview for the year-round school. Harry, who celebrated his 80th reunion in 2018, has been with us through the best and worst of times: the re-opening of the school after World War II, hurricanes, the merger, the expansion of both campuses, the restoration of the Pagoda, and the revitalization of the sailing program. A source of inspiration to every head of school from Pierre Cameron forward, Harry was a member of the board of trustees from his days in law school until his passing. The waterfront and gymnasium bear his name. He has been undeniably the keeper of the Ransom Everglades flame.

To honor Harry, please take the time to read both the article in the spring 2018 edition of the Ransom Everglades Log magazine and his obituary.

I can think of no other school that has benefitted from the constant presence of such a humble, unassuming, gentle, generous and loyal alumnus. We are eternally grateful that Harry stayed with us for what amounted to a lifetime.

Fair winds and following seas,
