A boost for community service at RE

For more than 117 years, Ransom Everglades School has taught students to leave the world better than they find it. This week, the school introduced a new tool designed to advance this long tradition of community service. Upper school students are now able to identify and track service opportunities using a software application that supports service learning by making it easy to volunteer. The initiative was spearheaded by Jenny Carson '03 and Corinne Rhyner, Assistant Deans for Student Activities at the upper school.
The app, MobileServe, enables RE students to find community service options that fit into their busy schedules. It also allows students to log volunteer hours so they can clearly communicate their social impact to scholarship or award agencies that have service-hour requirements, such as The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.

There has never been a volunteer requirement at RE; the school does not count service hours. The goal of employing the new app is to extend founder Paul Ransom’s mission of service. The school will use data collected from the app to identify areas of impact and need, and to help our students direct their efforts in the future.
