RE students and alumni are determined to deliver holiday cheer to children in Coconut Grove despite challenges posed by the pandemic. Instead of operating the middle school's annual toy store at Christ Episcopal Church, middle school students will surprise local children with large gift bags they assemble in their advisories. Alumni and upper schoolers, meanwhile, are partnering to send holiday gifts to children at the St. Alban's Child Enrichment Center.
Annual Middle School Toy Drive Although the format of the MS annual Toy Drive is different this year, we are still keeping this tradition of sharing alive. The Toy Drive started in the early 1990s with the purpose of sharing the love of reading and spreading the joy of the holidays with our Coconut Grove neighbors.
This year we have gathered the names and ages of children from our local community. Each middle school advisory group will be assigned one child with the goal of filling a huge gift bag with toys, books, sport equipment and different items from their wish list. The gift bags will be delivered to Christ Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove on December 12. We are so grateful we can continue with this tradition in these trying times.
Upper School & Alumni Toy Drive Help bring holiday cheer to St. Alban’s Day Child Enrichment Center in Coconut Grove this year! In place of our annual holiday party, REPA and the Alumni REACH Too Committee have teamed up with RE current students to make sure this tradition continues to benefit our neighbors at St. Alban’s. While we cannot hold a physical holiday party this year, we are committed to spreading holiday cheer through a special toy drive for the St. Alban’s children. Please visit St. Alban’s Amazon Wish List to purchase a toy. The toys will be shipped directly to St. Alban’s.
We ask that all purchases are made no later than Tuesday, December 15. Should you have any questions, please contact REPA President Vicky Hucks or Alumni REACH Too Committee Chair Ryan Holtzman ’00. A special thank you to Assistant Dean of Student Activities Jenny Gragg Carson ’03 for her role in bringing everyone together.
