Ransom Everglades' junior varsity academic team – Isabel Chong '24, Lucia Rose Dahn '23, Leo Fein '23, Daniel Figueroa '24, Erick Gross '24 and Jonathan Pollak '23 – finished second among 35 teams from around the country in the virtual National History Bowl May 15-16. RE's varsity team finished in eighth place among 65 teams.
The varsity team included Nicolas Civantos '22, Gabriel Mora '22, Joseph Moskovitz '22 and Javier Kumar '22. Mora, Civantos and Moskovitz are not pictured.
Ransom Everglades' JV team won remote tournaments in November, February and April before nearly winning the national championship in the buzzer-based quiz competition, falling short against Justin Wakeland High in Frisco, Tex. Team members gathered to celebrate their national success after school on May 19 with a congratulatory cake.
Both Ransom Everglades teams have been led during a fully virtual season by advisors Branly Fontaine and Abby Berler.
