RE club provides Brazilian immersion

A local dance troupe demonstrated a traditional Brazilian dance form during assembly on November 22 as upper school students also learned about Brazilian resistance leader Zumbi dos Palmares from a guest speaker. The events, arranged by RE's Brazilian and Lusophone Club, were designed to provide Ransom Everglades upper school students with a deeper awareness of Brazil's culture and history.
André Do Valle, managing partner of Clarity Ventures and an uncle of Natasha Do Valle '23, opened the program at the Lewis Family Auditorium by sharing the story of Zumbi, who led resistance to slavery in the 17th century. The dance troupe Capoeira Sol e Lua, which included members India River, Jordan Jones, Joseph Greenfield and Shannon Fenn, demonstrated the capoeira style of dance, which features aggression, acrobatics and storytelling.

Club members Maria Luiza Schuchovski '22, Juju Simoes '22, Natasha Do Valle and Laura Teofilo '23 presented the assembly.
