This month we caught up with mathematician extraordinaire, faculty emeritus member Jerry Exum. Mr. Exum retired in 2000 after 26 years of service at Ransom Everglades!

Year of Retirement: Retired in 2000 after 26 years of service to RE
Favorite RE Memory: For Mr. Exum, there are numerous memories from which to choose, so he replied with a generalization. “I really enjoyed teaching. Interacting in the classroom with the students. It was always so much fun for me to answer their questions. Sometimes they asked difficult questions, but I always answered them.”
What he misses the most: Mr. Exum doesn’t hesitate before answering, “Teaching in the classroom. Also, I had many good colleagues that I enjoyed getting to know.”
Where is he now: At 86, Mr. Exum lives in Miami with Christel Marin. His hobbies include gardening and ballroom dancing. Mr. Exum is still an avid mathematician, and he and Ms. Marin listen to a variety of fascinating lectures on The Great Courses, which provides them much entertainment.
As for the kids, Mr. Exum’s eldest daughter Belinda, lives in Illinois and his son, Joe (class of ’80) lives outside of Los Angeles, in California.
