Raiders crush Warriors, 8-0

Ransom Everglades romps over Westminster once again...
For the second time this season, Ransom Everglades trounced Westminster Christian eight goals to none. The Raiders took their time in getting into the game, but by the half-time break they had tallied four goals. They added another four goals in the second half, the last coming as time expired. The Warriors did not record a shot on goal the entire contest.

It is difficult to draw conclusions from the casual destruction of an overmatched opponent. There were moments of flowing build-up play, but mostly the Raiders dribbled around their defenders in the final third and then finished their shots. These were goals one expects to score against a struggling team. Even so, there is one notable accomplishment to highlight in this game: eight different Raiders contributed a goal. That makes eight goals from eight players.

An investigation of the RE Middle School Athletics Archives is ongoing, but your author doubts whether such a feat has ever been registered at Ransom Everglades. For those keeping track at home, the goal tally goes as follows:

Justin Beckham led the Raiders off the mark with a clever ball slotted into the left corner from the top of the box, some ten minutes into the game. Some five minutes later, Leo Porcelli thumped in a header off a cross from Sebastian Daes. This was Porcelli’s first of the year. Moments later, Daes dribbled the ball into the box and ripped a low shot inside the far post. Then, in the waning moments of the half, Albert Uster Valdivieso registered his first of the year, another low shot off the inside of a post.

Just minutes into the second half, Greyson Connell scored his first of the year, a forceful header off a cross. Later, Mauricio Samayoa finished a breakaway with authority, having been played in behind the defense. Just a couple minutes after that, Jeffrey Tong ripped a shot into the same side of the goal, having found the ball during chaotic play in the box. And finally, in stoppage time, in the last attack of the game, Hans van de Kreeke ripped a shot into that same left side of the net. The game ended in celebration.

The Raiders enter the exam period and the winter break knowing that any number from their midst can score goals. This is comforting knowledge indeed. They will need contributions from each and every player, working together as one team, to defeat the other Raiders (of Gulliver) once again. A rematch against those Raiders, the climactic event of the season, awaits on January 11th.
