Mid-Autumn Festival brings Chinese culture to RE

Dozens of Ransom Everglades students, faculty and parents enjoyed an after-school immersion into Chinese food and culture during the first-ever Mid-Autumn Festival Sept. 14 at the upper school. Event goers sampled sushi rolls and bubble tea and participated in tea-tasting and mooncake-making in the dining hall – which was decked out with strings of red lanterns – before gathering in the Miller Quad for a traditional lion dance.
The event was jointly organized by the Chinese Culture Club and Chinese Parents Committee, with the assistance of faculty sponsor Teng Xiaohong and RE's advancement office. AP Chinese students, Kyle Ng '22, Mikey Zoi '24 and Elliott Craig '25, shared a primer on the history of the festival with the RE upper school student body in assembly in advance of the event, explaining that it commemorates the legend of Chang'e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.
