Students raise more than $5,000 for hurricane relief
Ransom Everglades students raised $4,621 for those on Florida's west coast devastated by Hurricane Ian in a short-notice, one-day fundraising effort on Sept. 30. The drive, intended to get immediate aid to those who need it, was organized by the Student Government Association. The money collected was sent to the All Faiths Food Bank in Sarasota. RE continued to receive donations after the deadline, allowing the school to donate a total of $5,974.85 by the end of October.
SGA officers under president Loriz Arencibia ’23 organized the drive on Sept. 29, the second of two days the school was closed because of the threat of high winds and flooding. SGA leaders – Arencibia, Jackson Pegg ’23. Francisco Gomez Rivas-Vazquez ’24. Hannah Zuckerman ’25, Natasha Rodriguez ’23, Diana Gonzalez ’24, Leticia Crosby ’23, T.J. Malone ’25 and Max Salomon ’25 – jointly authored an email to parents and students that was sent at 7:30 the night before the drive.
The next morning, funds were collected on both campuses. Lola Pegg '26, Max Feldman '26, Lucas Jaffee '26 and Nohan Gomez '25 manned a collection station at the upper school drop off circle. Before the end of the business day, RE's business office was working to get the donations across the state.
