Raiders secure oar for the fifth straight year
A standing-room only crowd at Robert E. Walker Field cheered on the Raiders as they defeated Palmer Trinity 34-26 in the 49th annual battle-for-the-oar game, retaining the oar for the fifth straight year. In a game that honored the special teachers selected by each player, the Raiders were led on offense by Ryan Bienstock '24 and Neimann Lawrence '28 as the defense saved the day with a late goal-line stand.
The Raiders have won the oar in 28 of the last 31 meetings.
Lawrence threw for four touchdowns, connecting with Teymoor Siahpoosh '24 on a nine-yard score, Raul Matos '24 on a 22-yard pass, Bienstock from 62 yards out and Ron Williams '28 from the 12. RE took an early 14-0 lead, but the Falcons the game, 14-14, in the second quarter, setting the stage for a close finish.
With about two minutes remaining, the Falcons faced a fourth-and-one at RE's four. With the oar at stake, the Raiders forced an incompletion.
Bienstock finished with 236 all-purpose yards. Lawrence, the Miami Herald High School Player of the Week after the team's opener, completed 26 of 33 passes and surpassed 400 yards passing and rushing. The Raiders also got a 23-yard rushing touchdown from Bryce Sadler '24.

The Raiders defense held Palmer Trinity to three of 10 third-down conversions, and Mike Kaye '24 led the team in tackles. He also snagged an interception inside the 20-yard line in the fourth quarter that helped the Raiders keep their lead. It was the team's third-straight victory under coach Jake Caron.
Emma Holzman '24 sang the National Anthem to open the game, and the RE Dance Team performed at halftime. Many RE teachers also were honored at halftime; each player gave a game jersey to a favorite teacher to wear to the night's contest.
