Ransom Everglades Parents' Association helps build community with many events
We kicked off the new year with several community-building events. On January 15, we had the honor of hosting Dr. Lisa Damour, a renowned child psychologist, podcaster and author. She joined us for a live virtual presentation covering a variety of topics concerning the emotional lives of our children. A big thank you to our Head of School Rachel Rodriguez, who along with Carrollton Head of School Heather Gillingham-Rivas facilitated a lively conversation with Dr. Damour.
On January 22, we held the REPA General Membership Meeting, with over 70 parents in attendance. We received some great insights from Mrs. Rodriguez and Head of the Upper School Donald Cramp about the upcoming curriculum nights. Mark your calendars: Rising Juniors and Seniors Curriculum Night is Tuesday, February 25, at 7 p.m., and Rising Freshmen and Sophomore Curriculum Night is Thursday, February 27, at 7 p.m. These will all take place on the upper school campus.
During the general membership meeting, Health Information Project Advisor Karen Key (who is also a math and computer science teacher and the Junior Class Dean) gave a fantastic presentation on HIP. This student-run initiative is led by junior and senior Peer Health Educators (PHEs) who teach freshmen about important health topics. Recruitment for PHEs starts in the second semester of sophomore year, and it is a two-year commitment. Huge thanks to Ms. Key for the super informative session! Also, a special thank you to Eleanor Barnett for getting the approval of the general membership for her incredible work on the REPA bylaws over the past nine months.
Mark your calendars for our final general membership meeting of the year, on Tuesday, April 22, at 8:45 a.m. in the Posner Lecture Hall. All parents are welcome. We’ll be hearing from a panel of seniors about their experiences at Ransom Everglades, the college process and more. But before that, let’s keep the fun going! Join us for an evening of community, laughter and fun at the REPA Annual Party – Miami Nights, this Saturday, February 8 at 7 p.m. on the Touzet Patio at La Brisa. There will be great food, entertainment and plenty of excitement. Tickets are still available. Also, please consider sponsoring a ticket for a faculty or staff member from the RE professional community. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone. A huge thank you to our premiere sponsor, City National Bank, for helping us make this amazing event happen. And thank you to our Party Co-Chairs Jeremy Brandrick, Nina Miguel and Ellie Rodriguez for organizing this incredible event.
