Spring concert showcases award-winning RE Symphony and recognizes senior award winners

The RE Symphony Orchestra offered an inspiring finale to the Upper School Spring Instrumental Music Concert on April 24 by performing symphonic classics from Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The symphony's performance under co-directors Jon Hamm and Scott O'Donnell capped an emotional night that included a salute to 14 departing seniors and the presentation of two special music awards: Vicky Pinilla '25, a flautist, was named the recipient of the 2025 Bill Pender Service Award, and Andrew Gedde '25, a trumpet player, received the Leonard Bernstein Award for Creativity and Musicianship. Hamm and O'Donnell introduced and thanked all of the program's departing seniors: Sirja Jõeveer '25, Sindhu Talluri '25, Mikey Day '25, Anu Tewari '25, Noah Martin '25, Pinilla, David Luan '25, Carlos Horcasitas '25, Gedde, Hudson Kaplan '25, Patricio de Lope '25, Griffin Nelson-Montet '25, Paloma Lopes '25 and Sofia Rakhimi '25.

Earlier in April, the RE Symphony traveled to Titusville to perform in the state concert music performance assessment, marking the first time in school history that a full concert band or orchestra advanced to the state event. Besides the RE Symphony, the spring concert featured acclaimed RE Jazz Combo and Blue Note Combo, and Guitar Ensembles, String Orchestra, Advanced Chamber Ensemble and RE String Quartet.
