Youthful robotics teams score recognition at regional competiton on campus

Two young robotics teams from Ransom Everglades claimed major awards at the VEX V5 Robotics Competition “Push Back at Ransom Everglades” October 19 at the Anderson gymnasium. An all-girls team of ninth graders – Bea Hill ’29, Esha Nagalla ’29, Alex Brandrick-Morris ’29, Ruthie Newton ’29, Julia Bernstein ’29 and Chloe Weintraub ’29 – received the Judges Award and a team of ninth graders (and one sophomore) – Israel Garcia ’28, Noah Veras ’29, Sidney Schwartz ’29, Dylan Kantesaria ’29 and Porter Sanderson ’29 – won the Create Award.
The event drew 34 teams from school across Southeast Florida. This year’s challenge requires that robotics students program their robot to score blocks in goals, control the zones within the goals and park in defined zones at the end of matches. The RE team of Lucas Lafosse-Marin ’27, Nicolas Castillo ’27, Nicolas Motoki ’27, Girish Raju ’27 and Ricardo De Lorenzi ’27 finished 13th in the overall rankings with a 5-3 record. Seven RE teams competed under RE coach and tournament organizer Bob DuBard.
