Five RE English teachers shine at national conferences

Two major academic conferences in November highlighted the work of five RE English Department faculty members, affirming Ransom Everglades' stature as a national leader in humanities education. Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning Matthew Helmers and faculty members Julia Clarke, Corinne Rhyner, Matthew Margini, and Adam Schachner served as featured presenters at the 2025 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention November 20-23 in Denver. Helmers also earned the distinction of serving as Chair of the Conference on English Leadership (CEL) Annual Convention, a professional honor that placed him at the forefront of the national discourse on literacy leadership during the November 23-25 event, also in Denver.
The Conference on English Leadership is the premier national organizations for English teaching and literacy leadership. Besides serving as chair, Helmers was also elected Member-at-Large to the CEL Executive Board, where he will serve for the next three years, helping to shape national policies on English education and leadership. At the NCTE conference, Clarke, Rhyner and Margini gave presentations to teaching peers on teaching film, screenwriting and digital media; Schachner presented on AI-supported, interdisciplinary pedagogy; and Helmers presented on pathways to literacy leadership. Margini also led a workshop at CEL on the digital humanities and English leadership strategies in the age of AI.
