RE poet and artist earn major recognitions

Two RE students recently won recognition for their creative excellence, with Patrick Keedy Brown '26 earning a national literary distinction and Noa Garcia '27 selected for a highly competitive local arts residency. Keedy Brown was among four students nationwide who won the National English Honor Society Poets Laureate Award, and Garcia was named one of five recipients of the inaugural Oolite Arts Youth Artist Residency.
Keedy Brown's poetry portfolio impressed the NEHS with its "creativity, voice and impact"; the organization also cited his civic engagement, thoughtful biographical statement, and dedication to his community. The laureateship is a year-long commitment focused on "creative growth, public engagement and mentorship" with acclaimed poets. The recognition will allow Keedy Brown to present his work at NEHS’s annual convention, organize a public poetry reading, and consider publication opportunities.

Garcia was described as among the "next generation of Miami's artistic talent." The Oolite Arts Youth Artist Residency is a new and competitive program from one of Miami's top arts organizations, designed for emerging student artists aged 16-18. The program spans 22 weeks and includes a 16-week artist residency from January to May 2026 followed by a six-week paid internship with professional artists from July 1 to August 7, 2026.

According to Oolite Arts, the young artists will work under the mentorship of Gonzalo Hernandez, where they will create an artwork that will be exhibited in August next year at Oolite Arts' main building on Miami Beach.
