Raiders sweep titles at major sailing event hosted by Ransom Everglades
Capitalizing on "home-bay" advantage and excellence from across the roster, Ransom Everglades' sailing team swept the titles at the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association South Points #5 Regatta at Ransom Everglades on January 31. The Raiders secured first-place finishes in all divisions of the varsity and junior varsity regattas under coaches Dave Bargehr and Nikole Barnes.
In the varsity division, Ransom Everglades finished first overall with a total of 42 points, narrowly edging out MAST Academy (43 points) and Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart (52 points). Gulliver Preparatory School and Immaculata La Salle High School rounded out the top five in a competitive 17-school field. Ava McAliley ’26 and Sofia Rhone ’26 took first place in the A division, and Max Wolfensberger ’26 and Elisa de Becker ’28 claimed first in the B division.
In the junior varsity division, the Raiders 2 team of Ciaran Clingan '29 and Eve Kingdon '29 and Annie Ulmer '29 and Lily Kingdon '29 finished first overall as Clingan and Kingdon won the B division. The Raiders 1 team of Tommy Zaydon '28 and Cece de Andrade '29 and Sabine Wolfensberger '27 and Eva Cunningham '27 finished second overall as Zaydon and de Andrade finished first in the A division.
The Raiders hoped for a full weekend of competition, but a second scheduled regatta on February 1 was canceled due to safety concerns regarding high winds and cold temperatures. Students who were not competing on the water remained on-site to keep the team motivated and assist with the logistics of hosting a large-scale regional event. The athletic department extended gratitude to Dave Sanderson, the school’s waterfront coordinator and assistant coach.
