Sixth grader scores huge victory in Pi Day recitation contest

An epic Pi Day recitation competition riveted the middle school student body as Daniel Cavalcanti de Albuquerque Rocha ’32 rattled off a remarkable 399 digits of the mathematical constant from memory. His herculean recitation topped Nina Shah '30, who finished second by reciting 350 digits. Lia Kamar ’32, Nora Centeno ’32 and Isadora Almeida Miglioli ’32 made the event finals on March 17 in the gymnasium, and each fell out during an elimination round in which students took turns reciting digits of pi. The finalists received medals – and appreciative cheers from their Ransom Everglades' classmates – for their masterful mix of memory and math.
