2026 RE Externship Lunch & Learn Speakers

The 2026 year Externship Lunch & Learn series has continued as RE welcomed back alumni Larry Bassuk '00, Veronica Alcorta '96 and Kevin Escalera '09 to share how their experiences at RE helped shape their journeys beyond campus. Each reflected on the school’s lasting impact, crediting its rigorous academics and supportive community with preparing them for college and the early stages of their careers, whether in financial technology, global luxury merchandising, or advertising and entrepreneurship. Through their stories, students gained insight into a wide range of industries, as the speakers highlighted the importance of exploring different paths, embracing collaboration and staying attuned to evolving opportunities. They spoke candidly about pivotal moments, underscoring how adaptability and purpose have guided their success. Now established in their respective fields, all three alumni expressed deep gratitude for the foundation they built at RE. In returning to campus, they are paying it forward, offering mentorship and inspiration to current students as they begin to imagine their own futures.
Larry Bassuk ’00, Co-Founder and President of Idea Financial, shared insights from his journey as a lawyer, entrepreneur and leader in financial technology. Larry encouraged students to explore different paths, build meaningful relationships and trust the strong foundation their RE education is helping them create. He talked about how innovation, leadership and purpose come together in building a company, letting students know that his company is offering two externships for the Class of 2027 this summer – one in finance and business, the other in data analysis.

Veronica Alcorta ’96 shared her journey from the halls of RE to the global luxury stage. After building her career through marketing roles at leading luxury brands, she now serves as Director of Merchandising for LVMH Bulgari, where she leads product strategy across the Latin American market. Veronica spoke about the strong foundation RE gave her, the importance of collaborating across departments within Bulgari and how truly listening to consumer markets shapes successful strategy. Students gained insight into a new industry while drawing connections to their own career aspirations, even if their goals lie in a different field.

Kevin Escalera ’09 shared how his passion for storytelling first took shape right here at RE, which eventually led him to study communications at Boston College and build a career in advertising. After working with a nutritional food company and later a boutique ad agency, collaborating with a wide range of brands, he felt the pull to create something of his own. That spark led him into the foodie content world, where he’s built a strong presence on Instagram and TikTok. Most recently, he and his wife had the idea of taking an everyday favorite snack and giving it a healthy twist. Kevin launched Moo’d Up, a delicious, high-protein, low-sugar chocolate milk powder, which can be mixed into any milk or milk substitute.
